- Coburn are Pete 'Slide' Martin and Tim Healey. This new release is only the second release on newly formed label, Frontier, which was set up by Pete Martin from Cass & Slide fame. This new EP by Coburn feature two slightly unique tracks.
On the a-side is 'Ska Song'. A distinctive electro edge to this production with the baseline used. The vocal used is a bit poor for me and totally takes away from the production, which in itself is not too bad. Good use of baselines and even guital riffs. Some may like the vocal but it doesn’t work for me.
On the flip is 'Illegal'. A tough and quirky production this which is yet again riddled with vocals that may not appeal to some, with its Daft Punk like characteristics. The production features some twisted effects and sounds, as well as some evil baselines and has a pretty good flow.
What can be said about this release. It is definately different which is good, however, for me it just doesn't hit the spot. I definately urge those who may be interested in something with a mixture of guitar and electronic influenced music, as you may have a different opinion on what Pete and Tim are trying to achieve.
