- The music that Alex Jones and Glimpse have cooked up together so far is meat-and potatoes-techno—starchy, satisfying, but most importantly, simple. Dense & Pika bulldoze everything in their path with husky drum patterns and maybe a chord or two. Move Your Body Back, their second EP for Hotflush, is their most deadly attack yet, offering up three different ways to murder a dance floor.
The staunch military march of "Move Your Body Back" feels like it's going to be a straight-ahead thumper, but synths fly in from the periphery to swallow it up and spit out something chewed-up and ragged. After the breakdown it hammers the same chord repeatedly, like their "Crispy Duck" turned rabid and bloodthirsty (demonic vocal samples only add to the red-tinted ambiance).
On the other side, "Lack Of Light" is disorienting. Its percussion and darting hoover synths fade in and out like dips into a club bathroom, meaning there's several veritable drops in the song—enough to drive a dance floor crazy. "Back Stage Mute" plays the same games of addition and subtraction, but this time zig-zagging basslines and chanting choruses feel more boisterous than bludgeoning.
