- Whether he's a newcomer or an established artist working incognito, Auden makes a concerted effort to mutate genres in his UK-leaning techno tracks. Wall To Wall is his second Hotflush record in under a year, and it features four hard-hitting productions that know how to have fun. The EP doesn't exactly flip the script on conventional sounds, but it is an invigorated collection of dance music that's not tethered to any one style.
There are hints of IDM, breakbeat, ambient, rave and garage on Wall To Wall, but it's all underpinned by techno's steady pulse. An excitable disco loop pairs with incandescent synth stabs and stray vocal smears on "Lock In." These elements come together to give an otherwise simple track some panache. Halfway between a moody dreamscape and blown-out electro, "Utopian" juggles beatless drifts and broken grooves. Both "Perished" and "Xirox" continue Auden's stylistic free-for-all with some restraint and clarity. The added focus makes these nostalgic cuts more effective for club use.
