- The title of the lead track on JoeFarr's Llarose EP, "IDOMTYK," is short for "I Don't Only Make Techno You Know." It seems like an unnecessary reminder: since this EP first appeared digitally on Turbo in spring 2014, an avalanche of releases have sent Farr careening across the house and techno map. That record, now getting a deserved vinyl pressing through Fun In The Murky, is as restless as any.
Llarose's first half sends us off in one direction, with a pair of swaggering rave-techno tracks powered by brash house chords and the odd breakbeat. On the excellent title track, the hardcore comparison is reinforced with blissful diva snippets; the slicker "Roller 4T1" is better still. The rest of the EP flips into something more straight-faced and a little less satisfying. "Tape 10" is rather stiff IDM-techno, its metallic chord stabs and glossy synth arp edging into proggy self-seriousness. "FTone" opens in soot-blackened post-punk mode, before a shower of bright chords give it an anthemic hue. Not every track here hits the bullseye, but Farr has an impressive variety of arrows in his quiver.
