- Six exclusive tracks from Ostgut Ton's delayed mix.
- Depending on who you speak with, the "Panorama Bar sound" can mean different things. For some, it's classic house and disco. For others, it's purist tech house and minimal. But there's also a side that's simpler to describe: modern house. That seems to be a sound nd_baumecker, AKA Andreas Baumecker, explored on Panorama Bar 07, his new official mix. Unfortunately, due to licensing delays, 07 won't be heard for a while, so in the meantime we'll need to settle for these three-track samplers. Released on Ostgut Ton, they present tunes from both new and established producers with an emphasis on upbeat melody and atmosphere.
There have been several standout Panorama Bar samplers—Steffi's 03, featuring her now-classic "Sadness," comes to mind—but 07 isn't one of them. Of its six tracks, only three feel like something you couldn't find within 30 seconds of flicking through a record store's News section. Those standout tunes are Duplex's "Isolator," Gen Ludd's "Bloods Avalanche" and Jinjé's "Big Skies," which also happen to be the package's most interesting moments. Duplex's track is deep and cosmic, while Gen Ludd blends purist dub techno with a mellow string-style melody. Jinjé's selection is more ambitious, but its combination of bleeps, vocals and steady build give it a unique energy. The more atmospheric efforts from Dave Aju, Ross From Friends and FaltyDL scream peak-time club play, though they're missing the earworm melodies and hooks that made the other tracks work and feel like the kind of "big tunes" DJs reach for when they've run out of ideas. We'll need to wait to see how Baumecker worked these tracks into his set. Until then, DJs could look elsewhere in the record store for their fix of modern house.
