- Subtle sounds from a contemporary synth master.
- Steve Moore is a romantic figure in the contemporary electronic music world. While most artists of his stature fill their time with DJ gigs, live performances and travel, Moore is a family man and librarian who adds to his formidable discography from his home in upstate New York. While his band, Zombi, indicated an interest in John Carpenter-style synths, the breadth of Moore's discography makes him difficult to pigeonhole. He's produced Italo, disco and scored 20-plus films.
Where Moore's recent album, Beloved Exile, demonstrated the diversity of his vision, his new L.I.E.S. 12-inch once again compiles tracks that will work for DJs.. After setting the scene with the pensive "Broken Kills" and the beatless "Future 99," he gets into the rhythm tracks. "Eigengrau" sends some evocative chords skyward while an arpeggiated bassline rumbles. "Future 86," meanwhile, is techno—without the slamming kick.
