- Warm house music with an old soul.
- LADYMONIX is an old soul, judging from her music. On her label Frizner Electric, she's released "high efficiency disco edits" and sumptuous deep house that feels connected to her home base, Detroit, though not necessarily defined by it. Club Nowhere is house music that looks across the entire American tradition, from the Motor City to Chicago to the Eastern Seaboard.
I get whiffs of Jus-Ed's early Underground Quality label output, particularly the precocious bongo work on the title track, or how every element on "Mood" feels like it's lazily lolling about. But the relaxed vibe betrays the fresh, improvisatory feel of LADYMONIX's house music. Effortlessly groovy, loaded with zippy basslines and hummable melodies (or vocals, in the case of the irresistible "Movin' On"), Club Nowhere is the kind of house record that presses all the right buttons, classic enough to feel comfortable and creative enough to get your attention.
