- Motor City techno jazz at its finest.
- Outside Detroit, Ian Fink is known for guest appearances on other people's records, but in the city you'll find him gigging with jazz artists and holding down a weekly residency at Motor City Wine, Duality. At this event, jazz standards mix with live interpretations of classic Detroit techno records, exploring the intersection between traditional soul music and electronic futurism. "Stemming Back" is an exemplary fusion of techno and jazz. At just under 14 minutes long, it shows the depth of his art. It was mastered by Salar Ansari, the audio engineer at Duality, giving it a clean sound. A thick, bouncy synth line holds the song together around Fink's emotional, sweeping keyboard performance. All instruments are layered in tune to create a gorgeous harmony that ebbs and flows, until the last third of the track brings sweet release.
