Actress - Dream

  • Putting on "Dream" is like taking a firm step back into Hazyville, back when Actress's music consisted of mutant takes on electro and techno. It's easily his most dance floor-flavoured track in years, and part of his first solo EP since 2014, which he says is inspired by classic Detroit electronic music. Of course, it would be hard for Actress to sound like anything but Actress, with a bumpy, bitcrushed bassline and a kick drum that sounds like it's coming from two rooms over. A diva vocal wails repeatedly, as the track fades in and out of skeletal passages of sustained synth whines, the percussion picking back up and falling out as Actress sees fit. At nine minutes long, it's a journey, as immersive as any Actress epic, but in some ways, a whole lot simpler. But the barebones style suits him well.
