  • Upstart label 192 rec taps Kizoku for some irreverent tech house indulgence.

  • When the collective 192 appeared a few years back, they represented a new generation of diggers. Listening to their sets, you get the sense that they are less interested in flexing how deep their crates are and more invested in how they can keep the party rocking (this Pager mix is a good primer). The latest release on their label captures the ethos to a T. Kizoku's "Flemme" starts with undulating chords over panning drum rolls, a bit like the intro to an 80s daytime soap. But he adds in the chunky bassline to avoid silver screen melodrama as the track locks into an sleek, but opulent groove as starbursts of melody bounce across the stereo. It's contemporary tech house made with just the right amount of irreverence.
