- Zero-fucks-given bouncy club music on another knockout TraTraTrax release.
- In her latest Boiler Room session, São Paulo's Badsista swaggers her way through slinky house heaters, donk tracks and even heavy metal–head banging, lips permanently puckered. Whether she's bossing big moments like this, self-releasing ghetto house-inspired club edits on Bandcamp, heading up the feminist DJ collective Bandida or firing shots at Diplo, pretty much everything Badsista does feels, well, badass. "VEM PRA ZONA LESTE", the opener from her debut EP on TraTraTrax, GUETO CLUB, renders not one but two '00s pop samples (Missy Elliot "Get Ur Freak On" and Black Eyed Peas "My Humps") virtually unrecognisable. She dices them with a hardstyle kick drum and sharp hi-hats that cut straight to the bone. It punches straight in with zero-fucks-given energy.
But even when her tracks seem hard-hitting on the surface, there's a warmth bubbling underneath that makes Badsista's music inviting. "COSMOVISION BASS" starts out as a percussive bass weapon, but the guitar and cosmic synth lines in the mid-section are a softening touch. "BAGUNÇA MINHA B****" is the bounciest track on the EP, and it's real steamy, with pacey techno claps, dubby stabs and a hip-stirring melody. Plus vocals from Brazilian singer JUJULIETE, who enchants a sensual spell.
Badsista's original tracks alone are enough to make GUETO CLUB one of the strongest EPs of the year, but of course, this is TraTraTrax—they'd never stop there. The label orchestrates a showdown of club music royalty with DJ Marfox and Batu on remix duties for "VEM PRA ZONA LESTE." DJ Marfox makes the track more skippy than gut-punching with his kuduro switch-up, while Batu lends the track a completely new rhythmic makeup which, like most of his music, is equally confusing and thrilling to dance to.
