Another undeniable festival banger from Sam Shepherd.

Floating Points is no stranger to the out-and-outbanger, but "Birth4000" is about as visceral as the Manchester artist has ever sounded. Structured less like a DJ tool and more like a vignette, the track begins with a thicket of noodling machine noise until the arpeggiated lead synth emerges in a eureka moment. It's as though Giorgio Moroder's "I Feel Love" riff were reprogrammed into a frazzled attack à la Justice. As it builds up to a sweaty techno staredown, the synth shakes, tears and pitch shifts like an erratic seismograph pen. He pulls the plug abruptly at the end, as though he's created a power he himself cannot control. "Birth4000" is another stylistic pivot in a discography full of them, and one of his most exhilarating productions to date.
