  • Boris Werner has been a staple of the Amsterdam house scene since the '00s. He started out in the dying days of the mnml scene, turning out bleepy, pulsing tracks for the likes of Remote Area. But as times changed, so did Werner's sound. In the early '10s, he went tech house during the Hot Creations boom, tried out some hazy acid and even opted for vocal deep house on BPitch Control. His records sounded like the work of a journeyman, a house lifer experimenting with the music he loves. His newest EP, Hypnotherapy for Limousine Dream, is the culmination of all that work: the four biggest tunes he's ever made. Record highlight "L.S.D. (Love Saves the Day)" is a swung tech house cut that lays loose bongos under sputtering arpeggios and bad trip vocals. With its extended breakdown, it gets anthemic halfway through, but the minor chords low in the mix also give it a little afterhours freakiness. It's a record that underlines how, two decades in, Werner is still finding new corners of house music to explore.
