- What is it about piano house? It's about pounding out chords, working and re-working a hook that drives dancers into a potential frenzy. As a recent Todd Terrje remix for Shit Robot suggests, you're well off on a dancefloor with these "Simple Things." This sultry disposition is a prosperous one these days: Tony Lionni's "Found a Place," for one, was rated number three in RA's best tracks of 2009 poll.
Genius of Time explores the "Same Old Place." While the piano vibe is all over the place with Lionni, though, the chord-inflected euphoria here only soars briefly, emerging during a cleverly crafted breakdown. Spine-tingling stuff. A similar scenario unfolds on "Tight Genes": A rolling bassline, soaked in deep and dubby atmospheres and a sweet twist that emerges only towards the end. While nothing groundbreaking, this is a very promising debut EP for Aniara Recordings and Genius of Time. The promise of which has caught the attention of Clone boss Serge Verschuur: Rumour has it that there is already a release for Clone's excellent Royal Oak sub-label on the way.
