- Remixing a classic can be tricky business. In the case of Poker Flat's re-release of John Tejada's 2004 acid-tinged stomper "Sweat (On the Walls)," the two enlisted producers, Martin Landsky and Donnacha Costello, represent two methods of approach: Keep it simple, or take a risk and work your own personality into the track.
Landsky occupies the A1, and offers up a rather unremarkable rendition. The original's drum sequence remains largely intact, but slightly drops in pace and is given an extra two minutes to operate. Elsewhere, other than a few nips and tucks, the German's influence is, more or less, non-existent. His thinking seems a little unclear. Did they want to bring the track into a 2010 setting by chopping away the perceived excess so it could fit into a deep house set without too much mess? Or simply re-assert its relevance? In either case, it seems unnecessary.
Costello takes the original further into acid territory. Dark synths are entwined with Tejada's original synth line, resulting in a spacey twist on mid '00s house. A little ingenuity goes a long way when taking to reissues, and, on this package, Costello's effort is the pick of the remixes.
