On June 9th 2006, Shoreditch station was closed for the final time. The station had been through many changes in its life, opening in 1876 as part of the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway mainline service, which was then expanding its service from Liverpool Street station southwards. The decision was made to close the station in favour of the newly proposed London Overground line which began operating in April 2010.
Shoreditch Station was then auctioned by TFL in February 2011 and has since been renovated and transformed into East London's most unique arts and events space, with a spectacular newly decked terrace running directly under the heart of Brick Lane and the old station ticket hall.
The summer of 2011 will see the venue play host to 12 special one-off events.
