- Aashton is the new working name for Brighton based producer Dominic Ashton, former lead singer of the band Kinema and half of house duo Aashton & Swift. Released on Body Work (Waze & Odyssey/LPZ/Semedo) the debut A&S EP, ‘Holy House’ was an instant..Aashton is the new alias of Brighton based DJ and producer Dominic Ashton, former lead singer of the band Kinema and one-half of House duo Aashton & Swift. In 2010 Dominic formed the electro-pop band Kinema releasing three singles hailed by The Guardian as "up there with the Phoenix of If I Ever Feel Better”, by Dummy as “Irresistibly warm and infectious songs that skirt Dance and Indie crossover territory a la Hot Chip and Phoenix” as “Glossy Phoenix-y pop...” by The Fader. As you can see a lot of people were clearly listening to Phoenix around that time. Called on to add that ‘glossy’ touch to the work of others Dominic remixed the likes of We Have Band, Kisses, Princeton and My Tiger My Timing, would produce Kisses’ ‘Johnny & Mary’ single that was premiered on Pitchfork and has provided vocals on several club hits including singles by Satin Jackets and Sweden’s Drop Out Orchestra (Eskimo Recordings). In early 2012, following the relocation of its various members, Kinema split and finding himself increasingly making straight up club music Dominic decided to join forces with Bristolian Mike Swift under the name Aashton & Swift. Released on Body Work (Waze & Odyssey/LPZ/Semedo) the debut A&S EP, ‘Holy House’ was an instant hit supported by a wide range of DJs from Horse Meat Disco to Sister Bliss, featured in DJ Mag and on sites such as XLR8R and Data Transmission and named one of Bleep.com’s ‘Tracks of 2012’. Buoyed by that success Aashton & Swift would go on to remix the likes of Firas (one half of Waze & Odyssey), Compuphonic (on Get Physical), Logo (on Kitsune), All Dom Wrong (on Plant Music) and Mickey (on Smile) and would soon regularly feature on sites such as XLR8R, Discobelle, Harder Blogger Faster and many more. Following an amicable parting of the ways though Dominic has now gone solo and hit the ground running in December 2013 with an acclaimed remix for Australian band Clubfeet and the free to download introductory ‘EP1’.
