- "I gave up trying to be normal and found myself doing strange and awesome things" Synthy/vocal/techno/experimental/rap/rainbow workout- heart-to-the-core- from my solar plexus to yours:::::A'Bear is a multi continental psychedelic electronic producer and DJ making cosmically inspired sounds composed of hypnotising trance like melodic layers of loops woven through intricate beats. South African born, Australian raised, and London grown- Janine A’Bear’s music production and live performances encourage inclusivity and induce dream-like states of consciousness on the dance floor for all to enjoy. Described by Resident Advisor as ‘wonderfully unhinged’, A’Bear combines psychedelic polyrhythms with distorted bass lines and warped vocals. Trained in gong meditation and yoga teaching A'Bear explores her mindful deep connection with the chaos of sound leaving her unique imprint across diverse activities including: her regular radio show EastBlenders on Threads Radio with Lia Mice, guest spots on Netil Radio, NTS and Red Light radio, Amsterdam. Her hypnotic live synth club sets have been performed as special guest locally and internationally since 2017 alongside artists including Jana Irmert, Electric Indigo, AJA, Christopher Chaplin, Lia Mice, Loraine James, Loula Yorke, Renick Bell, Bass Clef, Kavus Torabi and Steve Davis, Rocket Recordings, Gum Takes Tooth, Lone Taxidermist aka Natalie Sharp, Bex Burch, Mariam Rezai and Microcorps aka Alexander Tucker of Grumbling Fur. In 2020 she self released her debut album Ear of the heart on Bandcamp via cassette- rave reviewed by Bob Fisher of Electronic Sound Magazine and Luke Turner of The Quietus. In 2021 she composed, produced, directed and edited her song and music video Wondering Birds- aired on Elizabeth Alker’s Unclassified show on the BBC radio 3. Following on with two singles “202020” and “Where were we” both respectively with her own music video productions were released via bandcamp. A recent collaboration of a remix for Teeth Of The Sea’s digital single Vortex of Release landed in February 2023. A’Bear is a complete livewire underground maverick on the electronic London scene since 2016- her sound is in a constantly emerging, evolving flow residing somewhere between krautrock /komische tinged tangerine-esque dreamy undercurrents combined with repetitive meditative bass lines and arpeggiated digital synthetic melodies and rhythms. A’Bear has appeared and reappeared for London and UK outlets The Wire 400th issue celebrations, IKLEKTIK, Cafe Oto, Supernormal Festival 2022, Courtyard Theatre London, Redding @ Doubledot Festival, New River Studios, Baba Yaga's Hut, Free Movements (SET), Queer + Noise, Resolution (multi channel installation, Goldsmiths) and Colchester Arts Centre; and in Berlin for female:pressure 20 years anniversary party (Mensch Meir), Fabrique Records and The Room of Eyes (Alte Munze); as well as Attract (Bolzano, Italy) 2023 will see her perform in Whitby for Levitations Festival courtesy of established electronic vinyl label Castles in Space, Yorkshire and experimental arts festival Braille Satellite in Lithuania 2023.
