  • A dance music journalist who headed up DJ Magazine Middle East, an award-winning DJ and now a rising producer with releases on Hot Digits, Dear Deer, Sleazy Deep, Prison Entertainment, Rare Wiri and more, Andy Buchan is now based in Leeds after 11 year..
    One of the most versatile and consistent DJs in the Middle East for the last decade, Andy Buchan has played funk, soul, disco, nu-disco, hip hop, indie, indie-electro, breakbeat, drum and bass and house sets (not normally in the same sets...) Now based in Leeds, he straddles the line between cool and commercial, and with a treasure trove of unique and club-ready edits, he has carved out a hugely popular niche for himself in Dubai’s burgeoning club scene as a versatile DJ. He's also a producer with a growing reputation, having released on Prison Entertainment, Audaz Records, Dear Deer, Sony Records, Universal, Midnight Riot, Rare Wiri and started his career on Infusion Records. His first EP was picked up by DJ Magazine and given 8/10, while he's also featured twice on the Bicep blog, including their highly coveted Mixtape series. As the founder and resident DJ of alternative nights See You Next Friday, he's been nominated as the city's best DJ by Time Out Dubai several times. SYNF won the Best Alternative Night Award in 2011 and 2012, and was responsible for bringing acts like Calvin Harris, Pendulum, Belle & Sebastian and The Futureheads to the city for their debut. He's held down regular slots at 360 and Trilogy, two of the best venues in the city, as well as Alpha, Chi, The Apartment and the legendary iBO. Alongside that, Andy now runs the city's leading alternative night, Loaded, which offers a playlist that veers from The Jam to Jamie xx, and everything else in between and has returned to action after a 2 year break. During his time in Dubai, he’s warmed up for... Fatboy Slim, Chase & Status, Basement Jaxx, Mark Ronson, Groove Armada, Norman Jay, Friendly Fires, Todd Terje, Aeroplane, Prins Thomas, Beady Eye, Ian Brown, Pendulum, DJ Zinc, Calvin Harris, Josh Wink, 2ManyDJs, Stanton Warriors, Plump Djs, Sneaky Sound System, The Scratch Perverts, New Young Pony Club, Maximo Park, Darren Emerson (Underworld), Lake People, Tom Middleton, Andy Smith (Portishead), Ladytron, Cagedbaby/Thomas Gandey, The Freestylers, The Glimmers, Cypress Hill, Chicken Lips and loads more. He's also DJ'd for several fashion brands including New Look, Giles Deacon, Gap, Adidas, Fred Perry and Puma, and was one of the first pioneer Adidas Ambassadors in the Middle East and now represents Puma. Andy also lives and breathes dance music. He launched DJ Magazine Middle East in 2009, regularly contributes to Esquire, Rolling Stone and Time Out in the Middle East, and has also written for Q Magazine, NME, DJ Magazine UK and Mixmag. He currently edits the long-running entertainment and nightlife guide, Infusion. Now based in Leeds, he's DJ'd for audio tonic at Texture, Fuzzy Logic at cult Leeds club Wire and also played for Propaganda.
