- London born dj/producerGrowing up in South East London, Jon O’Leary – now best known under his As I Am alias – began his musical education at a young age with the guidance of his bass player father, listening to 80s disco and mixing cassettes at his grandfather’s house. He soon developed an interest in house and garage and in his school years was putting on his own nights before rushing home to listen to pirate radio stations. In 2002 along with a couple of friends he started underground radio station Select UK Radio. Now with one million unique users it is one of the longest-running underground stations, focusing on house music across the board. As a producer he creates tracks that have big baselines and a distinctive club feel, a category into which As I Am’s debut release on Defected Records ‘Saving Grace’ absolutely belongs. ‘Saving Grace’ released 1st December 2014 on Defected the fast-rising producer gaining recognition from some of the biggest names in the industry. Releases on Defected Records, Azuli Simma Black, Get Twisted Records, Whore House, Hed Kandi, Bar grooves, Ministry Of Sound, Arch44, Colombia/Sony support from the likes of Pete Tong, Dennis Ferrer, Danny Howard, Tough Love, Sam Divine, Idris Elba, EZ + lots more. From his first release's on Whore House and Arch44, its strictly about the love of music and variation across recent times and genres. Recently remixed Beyonce's 7/11 track for Colombia/Sony. Latest tracks Vegas Love signed to Defected's sub label Azuli, a single to Great Stuff, a three track EP signed to Simma Black also a single signed to Simma Red.
