Biografía

  • Born out of the booming Athens electronic music scene, Yiannis Psillas a.k.a. Bonso represents the cutting edge of Greek house and techno in the modern age.
Started djing professionally in 2000, together with his studies on Product and Systems Design Engineering, leaded him to form the duo “Gus & Bonso” with Dj Gus in 2007, developing an identity that draws on the culture of stripped down, hypnotic dance music while pushing into uncharted territory. Having spent his life delving into all aspects of the music he loves, avidly collecting a broad range of sounds from hip hop, funk, dub and jazz through to electronica. Bonso took his name from his former graffiti identity and applied it to DJing and between it he amassed a broad range of experience performing across Greece. As his knowledge and skills progressed, he spreaded the message to gigs in Greece, the Netherlands and the UK. His roots however remain firmly entrenched in the vibrant club circuit of Athens, especially with their regular slots at notorious nightspot Six D.O.G.S. and shows alongside such legendary artists as Petre Inspirescu, Praslea, Livio & Roby, Shonky, Julian Perez and many more. While his DJ bookings continued to increase, Bonso was developing his own unique studio technique, culminating in appearances on Recovery Tech and Rhythmetic as well as remixes and releases on Quantized Music. He made the leap to vinyl in 2015 with “The Priest”, a three-track 12” on respected Spanish label Wrong State, while a remix for Italian producer T. Ruggieri further expanded their reach across the European house and techno scene. As his reach and influence in Greece continues to grow, so Bonso is further establishing himself outside of his home country with a sound that understands the needs of the dancefloor while embracing the opportunity to take his listeners into new and unexpected places.
