Biografía
- Born in Santiago de Chile in 1970, Paula Schopf aka Chica Paula is a musician, sound artist and cultural provocateur who has been an empowering and outspoken voice in Berlin's thriving creative community for the last 20 years.The Chilean born DJ and producer moved to Berlin in the early 90s and became a fixture in the city's nascent club scene. Upon invitation from the renowned German artist Gudrun Gut, she joined the Berlin artist collective ‘Ocean Club’, a community of musicians, DJs and visual artists, which later hosted a revered radio broadcast under the same name, and electronic music events which would go down in history as some of the most diverse and eclectic the city has ever produced. With roots in the Chilean electronic scene in Europe, and part of the infamous Chilean run Ruta5 label with the likes of Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Dinky and Dandy Jack, it’s no surprise she can lure dancers to the floor with ease. A resolute mainstay on the Berlin club circuit and a regular at ://about blank, Tresor Globus and Club der Visionäre, Chica Paula has also toured extensively internationally, throughout European hot spots such as Harry Klein (Munich), Culture Box (Copenhagen), Zukunft (Zürich) and Space(Ibiza), at festivals including Benicassim, Mutek, C/O Pop, Fusion and In Fuse. She has also journeyed to cities further afar including Detroit, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo and Santiago de Chile. Together with the musician Max Loderbauer, Schopf recorded her first album “42 Mädchen” in 2003 on Gut's Berlin based ‘Monika Enterprise’ label under the artist name ‘Chica and the Folder’. Their second collaboration, “Under the Balcony”followed in 2007. In the years since she as also produced various remixes for a diverse range of artists including Donna Regina, Contriva and Hauschka, primarily for the much lauded Karaoke Kalk label. In the year 2017 she completed a Master’s degree in Sound Studies at the University of Arts in Berlin, and was the artist in residence in Havana, Cuba for the Berlin the Music Board scholarship program in 2018.
