- Danou P is refreshing blast from the past: a DJ, producer and musician whose blossoming career has been built on nothing more than a mixture of talent and hard work.Based in Rotterdam, a city whose extensive dance music heritage is well documented, the Dutch artist has spent years establishing himself, slowly building a reputation as a DJ whose distinctively funky and soulful sets span a multitude of interconnected genres including boogie, disco, deep house and – perhaps more significantly – an enticing selection of original productions and unreleased sounds. It was initially as a producer and remixer that Danou P first made his mark, and it’s still these studio works that he’s best known for on the global house and disco underground. His rise to recognition can be traced back to a chance meeting with Chicago house legend Jamie 3:26 while working part-time as a music educator. A trained musician who started playing the piano at an early age, Danou was drafted in by Jamie to work as a studio engineer and keyboardist. The pair struck up a great relationship in the studio and it wasn’t long before they’d become co-credited collaborators. A string of collaborative remixes followed (including ear-catching revisions for Soulclap Records, D.C LaRue, Glitterbox and Big Love), before the pair released their debut EP, What It Is…, on Dan Shake’s Shake Records imprint in the autumn of 2022. Popular with DJs, dancers, and critics alike – including Honey Dijon and The Blessed Madonna – the EP expertly showcased the pair’s distinctive take on house music, cannily combining Danou’s skills on the keys (and behind the mixing desk) with Jamie’s deep love and knowledge of Chicago’s most famous musical export. The pair stepped up their uniquely warm and musically rich trademark sound further in the summer of 2023 via Jamie’s Love Bomb EP, which boasted two more killer collaborations with Danou.
