Biografía

  • Dekker & Johan are genius in the studio and make every dance floor they stand in front of go absolutely ape shit..... if you haven't checked them out yet.. get on it !
We are two DJs (one from Canada, one from the UK) who became friends and started making beats together in mid 2008. We did a few songs and to our surprise people liked them and put them on blogs! Someone working for a record label owned by Damien Hirst heard one of them and offered to pay us to remix a song by The Hours (which was nice of him, because we heard he was skint). We couldn't believe it! But the real shock was when Pete Tong (of all people) played it on Radio 1 and made it his Essential New Tune in December 2008, and iDJ gave it 10/10. Our first ever remix! You can hear it on our player - we still like it even though our style has changed a bit since then. Then lots of people started asking us to remix their songs. Through 2009 we could barely make time to do any of our own songs, we were just remixing like fuck! We seem to take quite a long time to do a remix, we don't see it any differently to an original song. We aim to make every track we produce a little masterpiece (we don't always succeed!) We want each one to say something new about a style of dance music we love, a new take on what has come before. Everyone says that, but we mean it! Fast forward to now, and due to the rude health of the record industry we have been flooded with royalties flowing in from all directions, to the point at which we are now about as rich as Damien Hirst (in fact, to add an extra bit of poetic symmetry to the story, we are even considering commissioning HIM to do a remix for US). But don't be fooled by the rocks that we got - we're still Dekker & Johan from the block. That last paragraph might be a small exaggeration, but we're really happy with what we've achieved in the last 18 months. We're still doing plenty of remixes, and now we're also making time to do originals and develop our live show. There are some exciting things coming up in 2010 that we'll let you know about as soon as we can. Watch out for us muthafuckas!
