- exhaling the vibe, 365...With a livelihood in music that spans over 15 years, DJ Express (aka Matt Owchar), has always prioritized legitimacy and longevity. With deep admiration toward Vancouver’s modern electronic music underground and its place in the global landscape, his career can be summarized by an ear always to the ground and a deep dedication to the potential of those around him. In 2017, he and his wife Karli Fahlman co-founded their own creative agency & promotions company — the UV, envisioning a mission of unifying inspiration among communities of like-minded creatives in Vancouver. This step would set the foundation for the creation of the Paradise Cultural Society with their partners Derek Duncan (of Pacific Rhythm) and DJ & restauranteur Ernesto Gomez. As co-founder, head curator & resident DJ at Vancouver’s vaunted dance music institution, Paradise — DJ Express’ artistic intuition informs the space’s booking philosophy, in turn helping reshape Vancouver’s reputation on the global underground circuit in its few years of existence. In 2019, he also co-founded the sonic-blending label Specials Worldwide, a brainchild of his love of foraging new sounds & genres and connecting the citizens of Vancouver’s underground with globally like-minded peers. Representing a sound and DJ style best characterized as “lush & loose”, the underlying philosophy of everything DJ Express embodies can be best expressed as “exhaling the vibe, 365”.
