- Today, Gabriel is known as Jeneral Kai, focus on producing new tracks under his own label Turn It Up Recordings.As godfather to the Malaysian house music scene, Gabriel is no stranger to any local who knows his beats from his bobbins. Having DJed in pioneering clubs such as 11LA, Fire and Boom Boom Room since the late 80's and being instrumental in establishing the city's first dance record shop, Singles Shoppe, as well as professional DJ collective Tempo, it would be difficult to say that Gabriel's involvement in the local dance music scene has mirrored the scene's progression itself, introducing House music to Malaysia with his company Tempo and promoting landmark events by the likes of Jon Carter, Carl Cox, Sasha and Ritchie Hawtin. Gabriel's experience as a world-class DJ spans Asia, North America and Europe, with an especially loyal following in the tech-loving countries of Eastern Europe. With a playing style that is constantly evolving, it’s best not to expect the next track out of the box. Known for a classic techno sound earlier in his career, his sets can comfortably span Techno, Tech, Tribal and Minimal and his latest passion, killer Electro. Add to that a monthly residency, GUM (Grown Up Music) at KL’s leading club Zouk, which is pushing boundaries ever deeper into the realms of House and Techno and a new night at the club’s most intimate venue The Loft that will see the DJ and a host of guests revisiting the more classic side of house and you have a very full timetable indeed. Which makes it all the more surprising that a steady stream of tracks and remixes is flowing out of Gabriel’s studio. As well as his well-received turn at the helm of the 2007 Camelia album Mysticam, he released his debut vinyl track, ‘Omie’ on Jerome Sydenham’s Apotek label at the start of the year well as a growing relationship with Singapore imprint Onewithmusic which has seen Gabriel remixing Aldrin and Akien’s ‘Everything Else’ as well as the release of his own ‘Minimermaid’. A tireless advocate for both electronic music and its Malaysian proponents, together with another pioneer DJ and a former Channel V host Joey G, the duo started and hosted a new radio show Turn It Up - Malaysia’s first dance music radio show on KL’s Capital FM (88.9 FM dial). A large part of the show is developing Malaysia’s image, create opportunities for DJs and producers exposing their music and sets within South East Asia. In 2010, Gabriel’s passion for both house and techno has become a lifestyle choice so compelling that it drove him to start a moniker; DeepHouseSociety (DHS). The goal is to position DeepHouseSociety as a lifestyle brand by showcasing DHS music offering on a weekly basis at Zouk Club KL. Gabriel held permanent residency at ZOUK Kuala Lumpur since 2005, monthly resident at Embassy, Jakarta and Double Six, Bali (2007) and at Underground The HHI, Kolkata India (2008).
