Chicago-based DJ Duke Shin began his efforts in earnest, garnering his first residency in 2003. Initially in-demand supporting live acts like Nouvelle Vague, TV On The Radio, Saul Williams and multi-media artist Pogo, his bookings evolved to match his increased experience on the decks, eventually including underground dance luminaries Seth Troxler, Doc Martin, Roman Flügel, Rebolledo, Lusine, FKJ and Moby, as well as hometown heroes like Derrick Carter, Paul Johnson, Terry Hunter and DJ Heather, to name a few. "For me and my life, it's not the medium, but the story." A former music journalist, Duke was active for local alt. weekly Newcity Chicago (where he served as Editor for the Club Section for several years), as well as a regular contributor to global lifestyle juggernaut Resident Advisor and Magnetic Magazine. In 2012, Duke left both music journalism and a 12-year career in film to focus on DJing. Fast-forward to current day where Duke serves as resident/partner with underground upstart WYA Chi, whose recent bookings have included Derek Plaslaiko, Mike Servito, Eddic C and Rahaan. He's also a resident for Housepitality US, Refract, and Vocalo Radio 91.1 FM Chicago--which broadcasts a new mix every 4th Friday of the month. He's also the founder/host/resident of the Goods Thursdays, celebrating 7 consecutive years of weekly events in 2020. As a DJ, his distinctive sense of flow with selections and mixes have a predilection to include elements of house, techno, acid, slo-mo mutant disco, and IDM. When he's not DJing and working on upcoming productions, Duke also enjoys serving as lead instructor for a stipend-based DJ apprenticeship for Chicago-area teens.
