Biografía
- Chicago based DJ/Producer.Hijo Pròdigo is the sound identity of the Philadelphia born/Chicago bred DJ, Justin Ignatius Mitchell. Born in the red lit basements of Chicago’s underground dance scene, Hijo Pródigo summons afro-diasporic sounds across timelines, spanning continents and eclipsing genre. All while expanding on the legacies of regional electronic music pioneered in the cities that have shaped this purview (Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit). Mitchell’s sound developed out of a reverence for hip hop’s futurism (explored during a tenure with Chicago Hip hop act the Banjee Report) and the frenetic maximalism of contemporary club music. During a formative stint working at the legendary Chicago record store Gramaphone Records, their sound underwent a stylistic shift. Taking cue from the shop's extensive house and techno offering, the resulting mosaic of influences is an energetic blend of the past, present, and future. Hijo Pròdigo is currently working on new ways of existing and has found a platform to access their potential in the Chicago born FUTUREHOOD indie music label and artist collective.̸The Carry Nation - Breakwater (Banjee Report Remix) - 2016
