Biografía

  • Chicago ---> Berlin
    Originally from the rural farm town Roodhouse, Illinois, Jacob Meehan crystallized his deep relationship with music during his 15 year tenure in Chicago. The unpretentious backdrop of the Midwest provided priceless opportunities that informed his taste as both a musical purveyor & vibe creator. Working at legendary institutions like Gramaphone Records, Smart Bar, and WLUW 88.7 FM, Meehan immersed himself in and learned from the rich history of American music. Spending over a decade as a neighborhood restaurateur & gallerist, which then transitioned into producing parties, he became a pivotal booster in America's burgeoning queer scene back in the early 2010’s. Their crew breathed new life into the city's dusty pre-AIDS gay venues, like the now defunct Bijou Theater, then North America's oldest gay porn theater & sex club, by fostering a newly embraced, sexually free environment that coincided with the ubiquitous rise of PrEP. Jacob has emerged as a torchbearer of the gay groove, deeply rooted in the storied heritage of Chicago. Having come of age on the dance floors of Derrick Carter, Frankie Knuckles, and Michael Serafini, Jacob internalised the lessons of his forefathers. At his core is a musicality that reverberates with the resilience and vitality of the human spirit. His DJ style is an eclectic blend of machine and soul that transcends and captivates. With playful experimentation and innovative flair, Jacob seamlessly weaves together elements of house, techno, disco, and ambient (as captured in his RA Mix Of The Day). From quirky melodies to percussive rhythms, his sets exude warmth, depth and a sense of euphoria, inviting everyone to join in the celebration of life and love through the power of rhythm. Since moving to Berlin in 2016, he's become one of the driving forces as a curator behind two major events much beloved by the queer community: Buttons & WHOLE Festival. During the pandemic, Meehan focused on music production, releasing his first single "Hier" on NYC’s Major Records. “Old Reliable”, which samples audio porn from the aforementioned Bijou, was recently featured on a Nervous Records compilation curated by The Carry Nation. More releases are in the pipeline for 2024, including an upcoming EP on Twirl dedicated to his dear friend and former B2B collaborator who we lost last year, Aérea Negrot, and a collaboration with NYC’s Physical Therapy. Meehan is also known for his exploration into ambient. He is a resident at Berlin’s ambient listening bar, KWIA, and regularly leads yoga nidra guided meditation sessions. In Autumn 2024, he will lead his very first wellness retreat in Brandenburg, just outside of Berlin. Past appearances include: Adonis (London) Basement (NYC) Bunker (NYC) Carry Nation (NYC) Cocktail d'Amore (Berlin) Club Toilet (Detroit) Contact (Tokyo) Honcho Campout (USA) Honey Soundsystem (SF) Horse Meat Disco (Berlin) Listen Festival (Brussels) Panorama Bar (Berlin) Savage (Hanoi) Smart Bar (Chicago) Tresor (Berlin) Unter (NYC) Unknwn (Manila) Wrecked (NYC)
