Biografía

  • Named by Boiler Room as one of Berlin’s best-kept secrets, Jamaica Suk has been on the forefront of breaking through the global techno scene.
DJing quintessentially and producing for over a decade, she has found rising prominence for her unique brand of seamless mixing and driving, psychedelic-meets-gritty techno. Jamaica’s work has always been built on discipline, deep sonic exploration, and a passionate connection to the scene. Hailing from San Francisco and based in Berlin, she quickly became a fixture of the German capital’s scene as well as building a vast network of underground communities across Europe and internationally. She's centered her craft in the studio and behind the decks on the art of contrast - grimy industrial edge with meditative, consciousness-expanding dream worlds with no-holds-barred runaway energy. Jamaica’s voice always finds a timeless balance between the rawness of 90's techno traditions and boundary-pushing modern techniques. Her critically-acclaimed label Gradient has been a platform for her own finely-tuned productions including releasing a 17-track quadruple-vinyl release, “Uncertain Landscape.”   Suk was inspired by bands like Sun0))), Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Pansonic and forms of minimalism - especially Steve Reich’s compositions.
By day a jazz musician and night a DJ in San Francisco, throwing underground and monthly parties at warehouses & 222 hyde street she couldn’t deny the pulsating sounds drifting out of Europe.   After graduating from Pyramind in San Francisco studying Audio Engineering - In 2012, a haphazard trip to Europe for inspiration pulled her in so deep, she fell in love with the city of Berlin and its seasoned party culture, historical roots, and liberal mindsets - so she stayed. Currently residing in Berlin, she’s spent her time crafting her productions in her music studio. "A surging force of sonic exploration and a true up-and-coming in Berlin's techno scene, the formerly Bay Area-based artist Jamaica Suk continues to exercise a passion for techno while contributing new and exciting music for the club culture that she has come to know and love in Germany's capital. A trained musician and student of jazz, Jamaica's extensive musical background originally lead her towards a love of shoegaze and psychedelic rock. An eventual trip to Berlin changed her musical outlook drastically and Jamaica began to develop a love for the machine that would soon consume her. Originally just visiting, Jamaica decided to leave the West Coast of the United States permanently and took up residency in one of the techno capitals of the world (the only other being Detroit of course)." - xlr8r
