British soul vocalist Jamie Lidell is most known for his unusual live shows, which careen from glitzy Funkadelic soul to hard electronic avant-garde showpieces. Trained as a soul singer, his largely improvised shows have been likened to “a 21st century reincarnation of Little Richard”. On stage, Lidell manipulates and sparrs with his own vocals, dressed in a range of "media suits" – or costumes made of video tape. Lidell’s live performances are accompanied by visuals from Pablo Fiasco, who uses samplers, cameras, electronic gizmos, costumes, masks, and film and video projectors to add to the effect. Lidell previously workwed with Christian Vogel as Super_Collider, and he has contributed vocals to Matthew Herbert's Big Band project, "What electronic music is lacking," says Lidell, "is just a cool song that's not trying to prove anything or compete in a sonic space race."
