Biografía

  • Creator of the global hit 'Shiny Disco Balls' and back-to-back winner of 2 WMC awards, Jorge Jaramillo doesn't need much introduction in the House circuit.
Jorge Jaramillo (aka Who Da Funk)'s career is punctuated by great musical achievements. He scored a hit with his single 'Shiny Disco Balls', making him a household name and catapulting him to global acceptance in the 'House' world. Shiny disco Balls was the first house track ever featured on Play Station's 'Dance Dance Revolution'. It became an international dancefloor anthem and also spent eight weeks in the UK Top 40 chart. He played his hit live in front of millions of people during the BBC 'Top of the Pop' show. Jorge Jaramillo also received 2 back-to-back Winter Music Conference awards, one for 'Best House Track' and the other for 'Best Underground Track'. But despite his success, Jorge Jaramillo remains grounded about his good fortunes and achievements. On Subliminal/SUBUSA Records, Jorge Jaramillo has released numerous singles and remixes as well as full length albums and compilations such as 'Subliminal Winter Sessions 3 & 4' mix compilation series, and most recently 'Girlz Rock da House Music' on Lectro Chik Records. His song 'Shiny Disco Balls' was the first “Underground House Track” ever broadcasted on daytime radio in North America's WKTU and was # 15 in the U.K. Top 40 chart, landing him the front covers of both I-DJ and DJ Magazines. Raised in Miami, Jorge Jaramillo became a DJ because he "fell in love with electronic music". He soon became a battle style DJ for a Miami Bass group Vicious Bass of which he was also the co-founder and performer. In 1989, Vicious Bass' first hit 'Shake That Thang' was quickly added to regular rotation on Power 96, this was his first taste of fame. “I just thought this is it! Had I not been a success at an early age, I may have ended up in gangs and jail. I loved getting into trouble, but DJing soon became such a passion that I no longer had time to find trouble”. Though known for his pioneering contributions to the “Miami Bass” scene, Jorge Jaramillo's new found love was “House Music”, the genre he has embraced as his life and for life. His productions and DJ set range from “hands in the air” peak time hits to Electro and Dirty House. Jorge Jaramillo is also known for an energetic and fun performance. Most recently, Jorge released 'The Funk Shop' - Jorge Jaramillo & Nino Anthony (Subliminal Records) and a hit song gaining massive radio play on radio hit in Colombia entitled 'Telefono Roto' (Jorge Jaramillo & Atomic Brain). Jorge Jaramillo has now joined forces with 'Pacha Recordings' as an artist to mix various Pacha compilations as well as remixes and full on original productions for the Pacha label, including the Pacha VIP Vol 3 compilation out in Spring 2009. The future for Jorge promises yet further success, both as the solo artist and the DJ we all love to smile along with.
