Loka evolved from studio experiments between Mark Kyriacou and Karl Webb back in 1999. The duo signed to the Ninja Tune label a year later and their first track 'My life's in these bottles' appeared on Ninja Tune's 'Xen Cuts' Compilation. The single 'Beginningless' Followed and in 2006 Loka released their debut Album 'Fire Shepherds' to rave reviews. Gigs and a radio session for Giles Peterson's Radio 1 show followed as well as a Live performance at the Colchester signals film festival and headlining the jazz night at the Liverpool Music week. Loka also took on remixing duties, on Blockhead's seminal track 'Sunday Séance' turning it into a breathtaking 6 minutes of a full on live jazz drum orchestrated epic. Loka has now grown from the duo that started out in 1999 into an eight piece live monster. The Line up now includes: Guitar - Karl Webb, Keyboards and electronics - Mark Kyriacou, Keyboards - Catherine Norman, Bass Guitar - Tom Sumnall, Drums - Ged Hawksworth, Percussion - James Pagella, Tenor/soprano saxophones and flute - Ray Dickarty and Trumpet - Rory Gordziejko. As well as playing at the 'Synch' music festival in Athens Greece in July 2007, Loka will be touring Canada in August through to September 2007, culminating with a performance at the prestigious Guelph Jazz Festival. Loka are in the process of writing and composing their second album and will continue to perform and develop their material.
