Biografía

  • Composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and technologist from Hackney.
Lossy, aka Sam Sharp, is a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Hackney, London. Having grown up playing sax in big band ensembles Sharp went on to study classical music at Leeds before achieving his Masters in jazz from the Guildhall School in London in the mid 2000s. Since then he has immersed himself in electronic music, building up a formidable arsenal of instruments and equipment at his studio base in north London. Equally happy working as a traditional writer and arranger as he is in the realms of dance music, he often finds himself the “muso in the room”. As a session musician he has worked for Phil Selby (Radiohead), Beverley Knight, Ben Taylor and Lou Rhodes (Lamb), along with remixes and collaborations with the likes of Augustines, Laura Mvula, Greymatter, Stephen Crowe, Rite Of Bass and Roska. Always at the forefront of technology, the Lossy stage rig combines innovative controllers, live electronics, traditional instruments and looping gear to enable him to improvise and compose on the fly. Recent evidence can be found in the form of his sold out shows with poet Hollie McNish, live collaboration with visual artist Strangers Are People Too and performances recreating DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing album with Introducing Live at Koko and other venues around the UK.
