Biografía

  • Producer, DJ, label owner and soundsystem operator based in Melbourne / Naarm, Australia.
LQ has been playing and collecting jungle / dnb vinyl for well over twenty years, dubstep vinyl since 2006 and is a long-time reggae and dub selector. He began his career in music in 1999 while DJing at RDU 98.5FM in Christchurch, shortly after completing a sound engineering course in Auckland. He went on to link up with fellow Christchurch foundation selector Red i and they started a specialist radio show playing dancehall, hip-hop, jungle and drum n bass.  In 2003 LQ relocated to Sydney where he continued to be involved in radio and also worked with the reggae collective Free Dem Sounds. From Sydney he went to London on a vinyl buying mission and became further absorbed by jungle and soundsystem culture before he returned to Christchurch NZ in 2006. LQ then became involved with a collective putting on a series of warehouse events called Bass Factory which showcased a blend of sound system music - dub, dubstep, dancehall and jungle. He has been a pioneering figure in the NZ dubstep scene and put together the first NZ dubstep mix-CD with J Red, entitled 'This is not the Christchurch Sound: Dubstep Edition' which was released by RDU 98.5FM. In 2006 LQ took over the running of the Metrobeatz radio show on RDU until his departure to Melbourne in 2011. LQ currently promotes the Run It Red jungle sessions events in Melbourne as well as the Run it Red vinyl label which is the subsidiary label to Echo Chamber Sound, also releasing vinyl, short run dubplates and digital releases. He is the owner and operator of the Echo Chamber soundsystem and has provided sound for events featuring Loefah, V.I.V.E.K, The Bug and Digital, as well as DJ support for international artists: Mala, Goth Trad, RSD, N Type, Truth, Big Bud, Remarc, Paradox, Ricky Force and many more. LQ's productions are built on a foundation of dub, hip-hop and jungle which he makes using a combination of analogue studio equipment and digital technology. These productions have been played at iconic events including Sub Dub in Leeds, Mungo’s Hi Fi sessions, Outlook and Boomtown, as well as on UK pirate radio and legal radio stations such as Rinse, Subtle, Melbourne based RRR, PBS and the NZ independent radio network. The productions have received DJ support locally and internationally by The Blend crew on PBS, RDU DJs, Sully, RSD, Bukkha, Bizzy B, J Kenzo and more as well as several vinyl releases including one on the legendary ZamZam label. LQ plays original productions and specials off acetate dubplates that are cut at Transition Studios in London and Dubstudio Bristol as well as digging deep into his vinyl collection of over approximately 4000 plates and counting. 2023 will see LQ move into 100% original and unreleased DJ sets and more collaborations with MIdnight Dubs, MSHCode, Kloke and more.
