Biografía

  • LUXXURY (Kitsuné, Future Disco, Eskimo, Deep&Disco, Big Beat) makes dance music for adults. Blake Robin's disco-centric sound is heavily steeped in classic West Coast sunshine vintage vibes: LCD Soundsystem meets the Bee Gees as remixed by Todd Terje.
Raw, funky bass-lines plucked with grown-man finesse. A mastery of space disco native only to those who lived through the late '70s/early '80s. Dust in the glitter that vibrates in the space between string stabs, bongo slaps, and guitar jabs—while the steady pulse and astral effects feel beamed in from a more cybernetic future Los Angeles. That's where the nu-disco wizard born Blake Robin dwells when he isn't on the road opening for Giorgio Moroder or the Juan MacLean, leading his 4 piece band on late-night TV or remixing live at DJ sets in Mexico City, New York and London. In fact, you might've first felt his deft touch via the controversial LUXXURY Edits—where he uses multi-tracks (stems) of classic hits to create dubby slow-disco versions—but his original music is no less arresting, with a sound that reflects not only a newfound earnestness of expression but a lifelong love for the craft of disco. Robin first made waves with his controversial LUXXURY edits, a series of dubby, slow disco remixes highlighting buried gold in the original multitracks of classic songs. The series received immediate support from Greg Wilson, Psychemagik and hundreds more, and his vocoderized "Hotel California" got attention from both the disco underground and the Wall Street Journal alike. Since then Luxxury has released a stream of original disco/funk tinged singles on Kitsuné, Future Disco, Eskimo, Deep & Disco and several other labels while touring extensively in the US, Mexico, Europe and India both as a DJ and with his full live band, the latter of whom have played on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly and have opened for Escort, The Juan Maclean and Giorgio Moroder.
