When a person relentlessly organizes his dvd collections, re-orders his clothes by color and fabric, and re-arranges his silverware at the dinner table over and over - you would consider him...strange, with a probable OCD complex. But when you find that this person performed Mozart's Piano Concerto in B Minor at Carnegie Hall being just 11 years old, and holds the world record for Number of Instruments Played by an Individual Live: you might have a different perception of him: a musical wizard - or just plain 'wizard' perhaps. There's a very slight chance that any of this is true about Martin Kamil Mlekicki: AKA Martin K. But perhaps the most shocking truth about Martin is that he traded everything he owned, including his baby-grand piano, for an Alesis Synthesiser and some computer software mid-way through his high-school career. The path was set for this bright young genius: his parents pleaded with him not to turn his back on the piano, but he knew he wanted something more... He attributes this shift in perspective to a night spent at a dark, subterranean space in the middle of Manhattan New York; a night that would soon turn his world upside down for ever. He was introduced to house music at none other than the Sound Factory; a place almost a decade later he can call home as a DJ. Whatever your perception of Martin K is, you know he means business. On the decks he is a lifter of souls, an entrancer of spirits, a medicine for the mind. His unwavering set programming and precision live-effects work gives off a sense of organized chaos that can only be defined by the tingles your insides receive. No space, big or small, is out of his range; made evident by the venues across the globe that have welcomed him to perform. As a producer, he's appeared on several compilations and has released original productions and remixes on labels Kult and Slanted Black. While the evolution of the house and techno music scene has pushed similar artists to seek out labels over seas, Martin has opted to take the challenge of creating an outlet for this music in his home-town New York City. Together with his partner and manager Mandy Harris - Versa was unveiled in the Summer of 2010 and promises to uphold New York's reputation as a leader in house music. It's all coming full circle for Martin as he is able to give back what he was once given as a teen - stepping foot into a world of unparalleled freedom and creativity. For those of you ready to get down...your wish has been granted.
