Risen to prominence from Lisbon's queer underground, marum has crafted a unique hybrid practice exploring ecstatic psychedelia and collective care. Through sonic frequencies and listening rituals their DJing playfully weaves genres, showcasing their avid research for new sounds and hidden rave cultures. Oscillating between oneiric soundscapes and fast-paced high-energy music, marum’s sets conjure prismatic tales across both organic and critter habitats, spatial and ominous atmospheres, slippery and psychedelic trance and techno, trickster liquid dub, and stomping bass. Influenced by film scores, minimalist composers, musique concrète and queer rave utopias, they take pleasure in manipulating sonic realms to drive body and mind into strange states of release. Now based in Berlin, where they are resident of Dissident, marum keeps a strong bond with Lisbon where they are an igniter of revered parties such as mina, with whom they co-run the club space Planeta Manas. They explore the many facets of psychedelic music and hacker culture with the itinerant ins3kt Ræve, and with infinity rug weave hypnotic ambient music with healing frequencies in long collective sleeping journeys. marum’s thoughtful sonic and political signature has brought them to both hidden and renowned events such as Tokyo’s Slick, Chengdu’s TAG, De School, Berlin Atonal, Berghain’s Säule, Bassiani, Kyiv’s ∄ Kyrylivska, WHOLE, Sonar Festival, Primavera Sound, CTM in Manila, Vietnam’s Savage and ICA London. Parallel to DJing, marum is also a visual and performance artist, curator, and writer, working with the experimental platform XenoEntities Network and Rabbit Hole, focusing on gender, queer and feminist theory, technology and digital culture, electronic music and club politics.
