Unbounded by musical convention, Mathias Matthew has a background rooted in the artistic scenes of Detroit and Chicago. Responsible for a plethora of DJ performances at the hotspots of both cities, including Bleu Room, SmartBar, SpyBar, The Works, Vision and Primary just to name a few, Matthew has played alongside the likes of such luminaries as, James Holden, Deepchild, Pfirter, Jake Fairley, Frankie Bones, John Digweed, John Roberts, DJ Three, John Acquaviva, Lucy and Luke Hess. In addition to performing, Mathias also worked on numerous production projects including the likes of Departure (The Works Monthly) and Brio with Derek Fox. Brio produced the “Drip” events, which brought a new unique spin to Detroit’s electronic community. Brio used blank canvas venues to emphasize the performers while complimenting the venue with minimal eccentric visuals. Going on to form "Migrashun" in 2009 with Ari Frank as a way of extolling the virtues of "young, unique and gifted producers" from within the Chicago community, it wasn't until 2011 that the American moved away from the more traditional tools of the DJ trade into a hardware and software contoured approach that would give a greater flexibility to his music. By extension, Mathias' move into production has firmly taken hold in 2013 with playfully named EP’s on numerous labels located around the planet.
