Biografía

  • Resident at Thunder, a London based underground house music party.
Ever since stumbling across an acid night above an Irish pub in Tufnell Park as a teenager, Miles Simpson has been infected with the house bug, and before long became caught up in the burgeoning London scene of the early 90s. Since then he’s been tirelessly digging for records, playing records and throwing some of the best underground house nights in the capital. Back in 2011 Miles started the regular Thunder parties, which became established at the Waiting Room, an intimate basement in Stoke Newington alongside close friends Joseph Apted and Rick Hopkins. After the first few parties, Thunder moved down the road to the newly opened Dance Tunnel in Dalston, a venue that would become their spiritual home for the next four years. The focus of the parties has always been on keeping things simple, just a basement, a great sound system, a smoke machine, and a loyal crowd who really know their music. The focus has always been on bringing just one guest DJ to the party and giving them space to really put their stamp on the night, rather than the crowded, headline grabbing line-ups seen at many nights these days. To date, they’ve booked some of the most respected selectors in house music such as Derrick Carter, Gerd Janson, Hunee, DJ Sprinkles and Marcellus Pitman to name but a few. With the sad closure of Dance Tunnel in 2016 Thunder relocated south of the river to Corsica Studios affiliated Columbian in Elephant and Castle. In addition to the regular nights as Thunder resident, Miles is a regular at festivals such as FARR and Electric Elephant. Miles is also an accomplished wordsmith, having written the now gracefully retired Beyond the Starts blog for many years and also holding down a regular column on the Ransom Note where he writes about his continuing passion for digging out the best house records from the past and the future.
