Nickelle…DJ/Producer…UK
When it comes to underground DJs Nickelle is the kind of artist who doesn’t care
too much for the usual bandwagons and who will stick their neck
out and take a chance to play a piece of music if it feels right, regardless of genre.
That ethos has yielded her a reputation for serving up original sets and
producing house and techno that can be hard to pinpoint down to a single
genre or timeframe.
No stranger to the scene both in the UK and internationally, she's built herself a
solid reputation among the house and techno cognoscenti. Her DJ sets are
resolutely upfront, yet every time she enters the booth you know she's also
drawing on the extensive experience, record collection and understanding of
working a floor, that only 20 years of mixing records can provide.
Nickelle brings together the groove of house with the energy of techno. Her
productions are forward-thinking and always emotive.
A native of the Lake District, Nickelle was first bitten by the dance music bug as a
15-year-old, sneaking into nightclubs such as Vague in Leeds and the Arena in
Middlesbrough. A couple of years later, armed only with a bag of records and a
change of clothes, she headed down to Brighton and never made it home. Soon
after she bagged her first residency, at Brighton’s Honey Club. Barely out of her
teens, she began to pick up gigs at other high profile UK clubs including Turnmills,
Escape, The Zap and Ministry Of Sound.
Since then, she’s gone on to hold residencies at Fabric and The End in London
(for DTPM and Jaded, respectively) and also at Chalet in Rome (her monthly
residency that spanned for over three years). She's played just about every UK
and European club worth talking about and has also delved into more diverse
events, providing the sound for high-end catwalk shows for clothing labels such as
Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair NYC, and events such as the official closing party to the
Berlin Film Festival, along with having undertaken regular major tours of the Far
East headlining venues such as Double Six - Bali, Stadium & Centro - Jakarta,
Attica - Singapore, Drop - HK and Tomorrow - Zu Hai.
Working both on her own and with production partner Nessim Molder, Nickelle's
productions and remixes have appeared on respected UK labels including Slip N'
Slide and Art & Craft as well as Italy's Rebirth and Spain's Iberican / Stereo. Along with
releases as a solo artist on UK labels such as Bullet:Dodge, and remix outings,
such as X-Press 2’s ‘Why’.
Fast forward to 2023 and a relaunch is underway. Her passion for electronic music
– as a DJ, as a producer and as a music lover – is burning stronger than ever. Expect
to hear a lot more from this supremely talented, personable and hardworking DJ and
producer very soon armed with an unwavering determination to champion music from
the heart.
