Biografía

  • Producer of House Music: Deep House, Tech House, Techno, Tribal House. Nick has been heavily involved in House Music since the young age of 11. Over 14 years have passed and the love for House still stays strong. Since dipping his toes into the wor..
From a young age, Nick was attracted to electronic music - raised on his brothers 90’s Rave cassettes. With the purchase of his first single, Snap’s ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’, the fascination of music creation had started. His first step into music production, strangely, began in a local supermarket. A Sony Playstation magazine with a game called ‘Music’ being promoted on the front cover was all too tempting to leave alone for the young, creation-hungry kid - the number one spot on his 1998 Christmas wishlist was filled. Santa came, and the venture officially began. Sequencing loops on his Playstation was fun, but over time, he wanted a bit more quality. A piece of PC Software called House eJay came out in 2002. It still allowed him to piece together loops and loosely make his own productions, but the desire for more advanced creation wouldn’t go away. He’d seen his brother playing on a bit of software called Reason and fancied giving it a go himself. Once he’d tasted the flavour of creating music with nothing but a synth and a drum sequencer, he realised he’d finally found what he was always looking for – music production that was entirely his, not pre-written loops. Over time, Nick’s music collection had built up. Bored of listening to music with a two second gap at the end, it was time for Nick to get practising on his brothers turntables and start mixing. The mixing and production bug had sunk it’s teeth in deep, and it wasn’t long before Nick had created his first few albums. Although the albums weren’t passed any further along than friends and family, Nick couldn’t see his musical days ending until the nurses in his retirement home started telling him to “turn that damn music down!” Using his creative edge, he was able to span all electronic genres and practise different production techniques for different styles of music. Taking this path is what led to Nick’s innovative style of production. It was now time for Nick to push the album creation aside and start thinking seriously about producing quality music – the music he had always had a soft spot for – House. Nick explored many different style of House music over a large number of years, searching for the sound he wanted and felt complete listening to. He found that it was warmth, soul and energy he desired in music – this became very apparent to him when he found himself completely immersed in Deep House and Detroit Techno. Always striving for more quality, he started saving his pennies and began building his own home studio at the age of 16. The studio blossomed over the years, transforming from a teenagers bedroom into a semi-professional music studio. Practising lots of different techniques in the studio and working on several tracks at once gave Nick another high dose of creativity, composing tracks every day and annoying his neighbours with a constant onslaught of punchy beats and wall-vibrating bass. Nick had soon reached the point where he felt his music was saleable. He had held his music back for too long and it was time for people to listen to the energetic and warm sounds he had been cooking up in his audio lab. After becoming very good friends with his pal Joe Brunning, who shared the same musical outlook, they both began working on tracks together, sharing ideas and constantly searching the internet to see what was new in the world of House. Nick and Joe wanted to create a platform for artists who looked at music in the same way that they did – this was when their joint record label was born – Lifted Digital. After coming up with the idea in 2008, they put the wheels in motion and started working on a bunch of tracks that could be put out as a massive package for the launch of the label: five EP’s produced by the two of them. Their first ‘Lifted’ release came out in early 2010, which included Nick’s remix of a track called ‘Soul Machine’ by Joe Brunning. Interest in the duo’s music began to build and was starting to catch the eyes of some incredibly well known DJ’s. Signings from well-esteemed labels such as Bush Records and Mentor Records were offered, and gratefully accepted, giving them both a great opportunity to grow further in the music industry. Nick continues to work hard in his studio, searching for new sounds and dreaming up new ideas for making dancefloor wreckers and melodic grooves.
