- The Canadian Prairies is where Marc 'Oxide' LaCasse's roots were planted 11 years ago and his love for house music has grown in all directions since his inception. Whether it's DJ'ing in the Embassy Lounge in Republic or a chilled environment at Noir..What can’t you say about Winnipeg’s most funktafied and outgoing House DJ? Since Oxide’s inception to the Electronica scene at the infamous Panic parties at 123 Princess in 1994, he has had his hands in almost every aspect that has to do with House music. Being part of Promotion companies like PANIC, Groovefactory (A One Night Stand 1, 2 & 3), Empire Cabaret, Nightmare, Soundwave, Symptom & events at the Au Bar & Pyramid Cabaret in the past and present he has been involved in throwing parties, club nights and it has been going on for 11 years now. Oxide has made an impact in the Winnipeg scene & community in a big way. He plays an excellent range of House and sometimes rare oddities from 80’s to Alternative rock remixes to Disco, plus his own brand of self produced live house music. To add to his repertoire of musical genres Oxide has honed his skills to become a full out Drum’n Bass technician and Breaks DJ. His love for the music continues and can be seen in his columns, interviews and record reviews he writes for in Canada’s premiere online magazine, Jackhouse. The Urbnet.com community hosts a number of electronic styles including Jungle/Dnb and Techno/Abstract plus Hip Hop. Along with printed media in the local University of Winnipeg campus magazine Stylus and the University of Manitoba paper the Manitoban his passion for music doesn’t end no matter what form it takes on. In 1997 the production bug bit him and he began molding sounds in his bedroom studio that are now known across Canada. His efforts have been recognized and he continues to make his signature funky prairie house. After releasing some earlier self produced material on the Near Sighted Rhythms CD he had the opportunity to mix the House compilation on Shoreline Records with Jackhouse Urbnet.com/records which forwarded him to strive for more for house representation in Winnipeg & Canada. Most recently New York’s finest, Bluntedfunk Records released Down Spankula which boasts an emotional deep funk much like his dj sets that always turn dance floors into hot dirty masses. On top of regularly getting booked for club nights and parties and other social events he continues to support the Campus Radio Stations. With guest spots on CKUW & CKXL Oxide yearned for a chance to broadcast his own sound to the city of Winnipeg in 2000 on Phonocentric Radio. After learning the ropes, Andre Bisseck and himself now do every Friday night on sHIFT Radio 101.5FM 9pm-11pm CST. sHIFT is the only all Deep House/Minimal Techno radio show in the city featuring fresh weekly mixes and frequent on air interviews with international DJ’s & Producers including Joshua Collins, Michael Mayer, Jacob London, Jay Tripwire, Jon Delerious, Greg & Paul (Slush Recordings/Stickman) and Demuir or live in the studio with past guests Miguel Graça, Gavin Froome, Luke McKeehan and Adam Marshal. Oxide has played alongside the talents of Kevin Saunderson, Eddie Richards, Sombionx, Jay Tripwire, Mazi, Mathew Dear, Dano, Hipp-e, Vernon, Clive Henry (Peace Division), Jon Delerious, Tiga, Joe Silva & Ali Khan (Tonepushers), Paranoid Jack, Hatiras, and the Stickmen to name a few.
