Having patiently spun records for over a decade and producing for over five years, Paul Jackson is now getting his long deserved attention and is one of the UK’s most sought after producers and DJs. On the production front, 2003 was the biggest year yet for Jackson. Darren Emerson signed Paul to Underwater Records back in January after Pete Tong made ‘The Push’ - a moody, ethnic influenced epic and Jackson’s second solo production effort (the first being ‘Bulldozer’ on Fluential Records) - Essential New Tune. It was released in April 2003 and gained great critical acclaim from both DJs (Jon Carter named it as his tune of the year as well as props from the alternative sector – including Steve Lamacq, Colin Murray and Annie Nightingale) and the press. In October Jackson dropped ‘Rock and Roll/The Way We Do It’ a dark and heavy, yet beautiful and melodic composition on the label, the double A-side again moved Jackson further up the scale. In January 2004 Jackson released ‘The Push (Far From Here)’ vocal version, with Dirty Vegas’ Steve Smith on vocals. The track, complete with Smith’s vocal again gained Essential New Tune and counts Zane Lowe amongst its fans. Paul has also mixed the third in the highly reputed Underwater Episode… compilations alongside label boss Darren Emerson, “Underwater Episode 3” was released in June along with his next production effort for Underwater “Blockbuster” (again Essential New Tune) – Paul’s tech-come-house mix selection includes tracks from Chicken Lips, Agoria, Cohen Versus Deluxe and many more ands received great acclaim from the UK’s press. Previous to his solo efforts, Jackson recorded under the alias Kidstuff with Mark Wilkinson and Kevin ‘K-Boy’ Brooks’. Together they released on Defected’s offshoot Fluential Records with 'Alright' and 'Jetfunk', both of which received due attention from Danny Tenaglia, Pete Tong and Seb Fontaine, they also released on cuts on Skint and NRK. Remix wise Jackson has added his flavour to Dido with ‘Stoned’ for BMG, Tomcraft’s ‘Brainwashed’ for Data/MoS, Gus Gus’ ‘Call of the Wild’ for Underwater, The Donatella movement’s “Get Ready” , Starbeach ‘Get Naked’ for SuSu and most recently has added his remixing abilities to Faithless’ “Weapon of Mass Destruction” – a huge player for DJs around the globe. On the DJ scale, Jackson has been behind the decks for over 12 years and has DJ’d in over 50 countries. He’s held residencies at Amnesia (Ibiza) The Cross (London), Ministry of Sound (London), Madrid, Valencia and has played regularly in all of the UK’s leading clubs as well as tours for dance music’s leading labels and media outlets - including Subliminal, Defected, Radio 1 and MTV. In 2003 Paul was a lead player on Underwater’s world tour, which gave him regular slots at Underwater’s London residency at The End, sets at Pacha, Ibiza – including the closing party, the 5 Days Off festival in Amsterdam and Dance Valley festival in Rotterdam and gigs throughout the UK and Europe. In January 2001 Jackson performed his debut 'Radio 1 Essential Mix', which is still cited by many as one of the best ever and was duly nominated for best Essential Mix at 2001's Muzik Magazine Awards. Jackson did his second Essential Mix in January 2003. In 2004, expect more from Jackson on both the production and DJ front as he ‘pushes’ his sound out to the masses…
