His production alias has seen him make fans of Anja Schneider, Paul Woolford, Nic Fanciulli, Slam, and countless others in just over 12 months and things are looking pretty rosy for the Sheffield based artist. Born in Yazd, a desert city in Iran in 1986, Pedram was initially inducted into the world of electronic music by the likes of Pink Floyd and Jean Michel Jarre whose tape packs had pride of place in his dad’s collection – a place almost designed for every child to plunder. A move to what is arguably the electronic music capital of the UK, Sheffield, only fuelled his early interests, with labels like Warp and acts like LFO seeming like “neighbours” to not just Pedram, but most youngsters in the city. The next parts of the chain are fairly typical, with commercially orientated acts like The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers acting like gateway drugs to the ‘hard stuff’, in this case the progressive-noir sound of Sasha and Digweed in the early half of the new millennium. Tape packs and the grainy internet radio such as Groovetech (RIP) weren’t enough though, and Pedram was soon a regular fixture in the crowd of Sheffield clubbing institutions Urban Gorilla, Remedy and Scuba, where the promoters and residents turned a blind eye to his age and were happy to indulge the scarily informed and incredibly eager punter when it came to chatting about music. A passionate autodidact, the information, music and vibes of these nights were filtered by Pedram, and began to emerge as a desire to produce using Fruity Loops and whatever music software he could afford. Early production attempts were handed to the aforementioned club residents, who tested them so that Pedram could find exactly the sounds he wanted and it wasn’t before long that the likes of James Zabiela and Paul Woolford were taking music away for their own sets. Fast forward just a few years to 2008 and this combination of dogged determination and happy accidents has led to a refined sound which combines deep house and techno with ambient electronica to make lush sounding grooves for the dancefloor. DJing, an area which has constantly provided him with influence, has also become something he has made his own with his sets echoing his fluid production and winning him gigs as far flung as India. A friend passed a CDR to Supernature label bosses and reknowned djs, Audiofly, and the hobby became a career in early 2009 – with Tom Budden’s Alive Recordings, Renaissance and more all releasing his music in some form.
