Biografía

  • Pure Science has been performing live since the late 80's and releasing music since 1990. He has also been involved with studio and venue sound engineering and has worked as a midi programmer / keyboard tech for a large list of artists & producers.
    Hailed as “The future of Dj’ing” (Last night a Dj Saved my life) and “The last bastion of Acid House” (Muzik Mag) and listed on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tech_house as one of the most important characters of the techouse era and is not to be underestimated. Pure Science has had a deep affiliation with Electronic Music since the early 80’s. Starting out as a Keyboard Player / Synthesist playing in a few bands and acquiring a Tape Op position at a recording studio back in the late 80’s at then Passion Records (London Pirate Radio Station Lightning FM’s recording studio in Brixton) and assisting such artists as Tenor Fly, Michael Prophet and Dave Angel. Phivos then still in his teens was starting to get booked as a live PA, playing live and performing gigs at parties and venues such as “Pirate Club”, “The Fridge” and “The Brain”. During this time Phivos was asked to program and arrange keyboard parts for Miss France 89 (Sandrine) on French label Vital via some of his band contacts. Phivos was then Introduced to Pirate radio Fantasy FM’s Dj Hype, the duo went on to co-produce the first releases on Kickin Records “The Excorcist” & “The Bee” as the artist “The Scientist” (Engineered by Ralph P Ruppert). These tracks were supported heavily by the London Pirate Radio stations of the time and both reached No 1 in the UK Dance and Independent Charts (No’s 43 & 46 National UK Gallop charts 1990) and voted by KISS FM listeners as best tune of the year on their first year of getting a broadcasting licence. At this time “Mr Science” was also working freelance in the studio with various artists and producers from the likes of Mica Paris, Malcome Maclaren, Terry Hall, Captain Sensible, Nickollete, Dr Devious (Guru Josh) and Sony Greece artists Nikos Karvellas, Bantazis, Anna Vissi and Sakis Rouvas. Around this time “The Scientist” name developed into the Pure Science concept and Phivos started the P.S.Communications label and later the B+positive sister label to expose and share his sought after productions. Playing live at various parties in London and the surrounding areas gained Phivos recognition for “being able to wrap entire dancefloors around his little finger” (Muzik Mag). Releasing various tracks, licencing and remixes on various labels such as: Rehab Records (via Zoom Records), Pacific, Pagan, Lunar Tunes, Eukahouse, Plastic City, Rescue Recordings, Fabric, Black Flag, Hoog Choons, Bosh, Shakin-Vibes, Absurd, ifidota, Cougar Trax, Red Robot and Pure Science’s own P.S.Communications and B+positive labels. Performing regularly as a guest at various legendary clubs and parties around the globe and has played at events such as Wiggle, Rage, Pure, Telepathy, The End, Twilo, Zouk, Dungeons, Kerfuffle, Fuse, UFO club Berlin, The Bomb, Omen Club Frankfurt, Roxy Amsterdam, Sonar Vancouver, Sonna (Montreal), The Edge Sao Paolo, Club UK, Ministry Of Sound, Limelight NYC, Maze USA and Glam Slam LA. 1998 saw PS winning a best new DJ award for his seamless and strong live sets which would be performed with hardware Synths and Samplers across the globe and delivered as close to a Dj performance as you could get. The year later Phivos was asked to perform as a resident on the opening night of a new club called Fabric in London’s Farringdon. Returning frequently to play his legendary live sets Pure Science was later asked to produce a live mix album for their album series (Fabric 005). The Next few years saw Pure Science touring in places such as Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines and South Africa. Also appearing at Festivals In the UK and Europe such as Love Parade Berlin & Leeds, Homelands UK, Quartz Norway, Lowlands Netherlands amongst others. 2008 saw Phivos awarded a Double Merit in Sound Engineering and Music Technology at IMW in London and through his studies was working as a freelance sound engineer at the award winning super club “Matter” located within the O2 dome in London. Since then Phivos sharing his knowledge and has been engineering gigs at various venues in London such as Fabric, Xoyo, London Warehouse Events and even Football events at the London Stadium. 2009 saw Phivos being asked to build and maintain a keyboard rig for Jerry Dammers Spatial AKA orchestra and has toured with the orchestra as their keyboard tech for the last nine years. Phivos has also been asked to produce music for various film and commercial projects such as Saks department store NYC, Nectar Card 10 year anniversary, Patron Tequela, Hieneken festival of light, Iris Nation and SP projections. Phivos has also produced a down tempo chill / meditation album titled Digital Buddha which should be released in 2020. The P.S.Communications and B+positive labels have also gone digital and signed deals with Bandcamp for promos and exclusive bits plus full releases via Juno, Beatport and the usual online outlets. A double album from Pure Science and vinyl releases are planned for the coming year as well as digital remixes and re-releases of classic tracks from both labels.
