Biografía
- Re-Drum is Léo Urriolabeitia’s character inspired by the great movie “Shining”. A little child possessed by a voice, a musical one which transmit creepy stuff, but beauty as well…Possessed by his early trance-like experience of hearing Steve Reich & Pat Metheny – Electric Counterpoint at the age of 6. This experience changed him subconsciously, making the structure of rhythms and the beauty of melody the center of his approach to music. At an ealry age, he was writing in mirror (something quite common for lefties) and rhythm plus other exercices cured the problem. Born 1989, Léo Urriolabeitia has developed a musical experience first through the learning of drums at age 14 and by listening to DJ Shadow, Aphex Twin, Autechre, the Warp/LEX, Rephlex, Ninja Tunes labels. He then turned to guitar some years later and was impressed by the playing of Jimi Hendrix and the music of Nirvana. During high school, he was very interested by the always refreshing communities of netlabels flourishing on the web. Giving away the music for free was to be his creed. After high school, he studied electronics and computer engineering at the National Engineer School of Brest during three years. Music was far more important at that time (he composed several albums including Another Path Between Universes, Colours and 1969). Also, he had the idea to create a platform for sample-based music but it never really made into reality. Some years of depression, loneliness, introversion, half-crazy states were to be common for the next years… until he found what he was looking for : a fine Arts school were you could learn sound design.
