Ruoho Ruotsi is the musical moniker of iroro, a musician and producer based in San Francisco. His music production is largely improvisatory in nature, informed by interests in natural progressions, reverberant bass accents and inter-wreathed textural deployments. His projects draw upon the visceral aesthetics of dub, techno, garage and the impractical rhythmical leitmotifs of experimental electro-acoustics, fusing them into imaginative new musical opportunities.
In 2006, Ruoho Ruotsi won an international BBC Radio 1 remix competition, reversioning Steve Reich's seminal piece “Music for 18 Musicians”, leading to CD & 12" vinyl releases on Warner Bros. Records (Nonesuch).
Ruoho Ruotsi has released a number of 12" vinyl records on de'fchild productions (San Francisco), SKOR Records (Los Angeles) and done remixes for Auralism Records (San Francisco), ZeroG Sounds (Boston) & Thoughtless Music (Toronto). He has performed live at the Winter Music Conference (Miami), Decibel Festival (Seattle) as well as numerous underground venues across North America.
