- London based duo Saison have carved out a niche entirely of their own.Named the best deep house artist of 2018 and 2019 by Traxource – and one of the biggest selling deep house artist on Beatport – they have released on some of the most respected labels in the world, including Defected, Toolroom, Large Music, Sonar Kollektiv, Suara and more, and have remixed titans of the scene including Jack Back and Chez Damier. With a unique sound that incorporates influences from their disparate backgrounds, Saison’s music is raw, heady and deeply involving house music at its very best. Saison’s sound is characterised by a truly timeless quality and firm focus on groove, deeply rooted in the music from their early, formative years of music discovery. Warm chords, crisp, intricate percussion and evocative soulful vocals are blended to masterful effect to create records that are easily accessible, but that also reward repeat listens due to the intricacy and sophistication of their production. For Saison, it’s about more than simply making you dance: it’s about evoking an emotion that stays with you long after the music has stopped. Significant milestones in Saison’s career to date include the release of Moments on Large Music which was a Beatport deep house No.1 for an astonishing six months and 2019's highest selling deep house song on Traxsource. Further successes have come on their own label, No Fuss, with releases of note including Senor Blues, I Need Ya One Day and their remix of N-You-Up’s Jazz Bar, while Please Don’t Go on Guesthouse has amassed over 2.5 millions streams on Spotify to date. The success of these and many other releases have made them in-demand as DJs, with tours in the USA, Japan, Europe and South Africa. The two had very different musical paths that broght them to where they are today. Matt grew up in the United States, immersed in the Midwest rave scene, listening to house and techno and revering electronic luminaries like Chez Damier, Ritchie Hawtin, Mike Huckaby, Derrick Carter, Armando and Terry Mullan: artists who still inspire and influence him to this day. Leigh’s introduction to electronic music came via the illegal rave scene on the outskirts of London, with initial forays into acid house and breakbeat moving into vocal garage and house after attending the legendary Rulin’ parties at Ministry of Sound, soundtracked by the likes of Danny Rampling, CJ Mackintosh and Heller & Farley. Key to Saison’s success is their ability to meld their extensive and at times disparate influences into records that are both respectful to their source and entirely unique, crafting deep, underground house music that works on crowds both large and small. Both Matt and Leigh have an undeniable passion for and unwavering belief in their creative process as Saison; something that is evident in the both the quality and accessibility of their music. In addition to their career as Saison, Matt and Leigh own Earthworks Studios in North London. The two provide production, engineering, mixing and mastering services, to some of the most respected names in dance music. Through the studio Saison’s creative process is enhanced as they both have their own space to throw ideas down and then come together to edit and intemperate them as a duo.
