Biografía

  • Shady Lady, a Sydney born (Amsterdam based) DJ, time-travels across genres with funky bass lines and lyric-laden 1970s disco, 80s Italo, Proto-house, 90s house, soulful house and deep house.
Shady Lady started DJing in Sydney as a resident for the feminist and non-binary collective Comfy Grrrl in 2017. She then began to circulate the local disco and art scene, playing for collectives and events like Backyart, Electric Boogie and Heaps Gay, whilst volunteering as a host for FBi Radio, an alternative music station with a heavy focus on local Sydney talent. Shady Lady skipped the Southern Hemisphere in 2018, slotting herself nicely into the grooves of the Amsterdam dance music scene. You can find her either live streaming her monthly Shady Lady Show, dancing at the front left speaker or mixing at clubs and festivals across Europe. Her side hustles include co-hosting the soulful and sustainable party Traintracks in Amsterdam and the Queer performance based club night Jezabel in Utrecht, writing film reviews for the music blog Steppin' into Tomorrow and teaching 1980's aerobic dance classes. Highlight festival performances include Amsterdam Queer Festival: Milkshake - Supertoys stage, Lowlands - Hacienda stage, Radio Meuh Festival (FR) and Wildeburg. Club favourite moments include playing for Night Arcade alongside David Vunk, warming up for Folamour during ADE 2019 and playing multiple sets at Doka alongside Millos Kaiser, Trujillo, DJ Tracksuit and Naajet. Shady Lady's had the honour to play at Red Light Radio before its closing, Operator Radio, Radio Tempo Nao Para, Rinse FM France, Radio Meuh and Radio Radio. In the last two years she's had the pleasure of playing in Kosice, St Tropez, Paris, La Clusaz, Corsica and Antwerp. With a background in dance and theatre performance Shady Lady lays her heart out on the decks for all to see. She is driven to make the dance floor move just as much as she does, always pushing for palpable and joyous tracks. Shady Lady’s usual set is teaming with emotion, colour, a sense of kitsch aesthetic but with an eclectic knowledge of disco and house music, never forgetting the Queer, Black and Latin origins of the music she plays.
